Thai websites are awash with this singular image of the Thai-built 2016 Mazda BT-50, showing a more muscular version of the current model's controversial 'smiley' face.
This frontal image shows that Mazda has adopted the KODO design language for its one-tonne utility, which is expected to carry over its 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 147kW/470Nm through a six-speed automatic gearbox with dual-range capability.
Still sharing underpinnings with the facelifted Ford Ranger (due here in July), the 2016 BT-50 sports a cleaner, less ‘mouthy’ grille design with centrally mounted Mazda badge and chrome borders that flow into the redesigned headlights. Exterior mirrors appear to feature large indicator repeaters. The rear end is also expected to be updated.
Although there’s no news on interior changes, rumours suggest a redesign to incorporate Mazda’s latest MZD Connect infotainment system.
The new BT-50 is due for release on the Australian market within months, with pricing and full specification details to be announced shortly.
